MI Sensation Akash Madhwal Banned From Local Tournaments, Brother Cites “Dar Ka Mahoul”
Mumbai Indians found a new gem as pacer Akash Madhwal bagged a 5-wicket haul for the franchise, playing a pivotal role in the team’s win over Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Eliminator 2023. As the cricket fraternity goes on the rise of another pace bowling game from Mumbai Indians, Madhwal’s brother shared some interesting stories from the background of clover cricket. In fact, Akash’s brother Ashish revealed that the MI star has been banned from playing cricket in his hometown, as it was too dangerous to play against him.
Ashish, in conversation with India Todaycredited MI skipper Rohit Sharma with helping Akash take the next leap.
“The thing about Rohit bhai is that he gives players a chance. He trusts his players and supports them. A new player is always afraid of his position in the team. And Rohit has come removed that fear and Akash is now delivering,” said Ashish .
“When he was working after his engineering, people would come every day and say don’t go to work today, come play in our team and we’ll pay you. And from there he switched to the leather ball after his trials at Uttarakhand,” said one of Akash’s local friends during the conversation.
Akash, who mainly played tennis ball cricket, was too good for the level. Therefore, he was banned from local tournaments because people were afraid to face him.
“Nobody allowed him to play here. His bowling was quite feared. So, he was banned from the local tournaments. Dar ka mahoul tha(fear was over). Akash went outside Roorkee and played,” said Ashish.
For now, however, Ashish is overjoyed to see his brother gaining popularity across the country.
“But yera yeah, his tennis ball days are done. He is so, so happy right now,” said the elder brother elated.
“Rohit Sharma takes 50 per cent of his tension. Look at the bond they share (points for TV),” Ashish said.
