Adipurush Box Office collection Day 1: Despite criticism, Prabhas, Kriti Sanon starrer mints about ₹90 crore in India

According to Boxofficeindia.com, Adipurush is expected to collect ₹90 crore nett on Day 1 in India and gross ₹110-112 crores. A report by Pinkvilla mentioned that the film collected ₹around 88 crore on its first day.

Adipurush is based on the epic Ramayana where Prabhas is seen as Lord Ram, Sunny Singh Plays Lakshman, and Kriti Sanon Plays Sita in the film. Saif Ali Khan will portray the mythical demon ruler Ravan in the film.

The advance booking numbers indicated a huge opening with trade experts picking the film to do super business ₹80 crore on its first day. Some reports said that the film was likely to wrap up ₹60 crore in actual domestic box office collections. Some trade experts also said, however, that a situation could be inflated to see the number of major bookings in some states, including paid screenings for school students. ₹100 crores.

However, the film became a meme fest with people on Twitter criticizing the film. The film has received a lot of criticism due to the quality of its VFX style dialogue and ‘tapori’ which brought the actor playing Lord Hanuman into the limelight. Dialogues like ‘Teri bua ka bagecha hai kya jo hawa khane chala aaya’ and ‘Kapda tere baap Ka… tel tere baap ka… Aag tere baap ki’ have been heavily criticized. A group named ‘Hindu Sena’ filed a PIL in the Delhi High Court against the film Adipurush and claimed that the film mocked Lord Ram, Ramayana and the culture. Some have also compared the modern version with that of Ramanand Sagar. Some also said that Sagar’s version of Ramayan remains unmatched as he could create magic without any technology and with limited resources.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh ​​only gave the film one and a half stars and called it an ‘epic disappointment’.

Film critic Vishwajit Patil wrote, “Disappointing. #Adipurush is a big disappointment… BAD VFX, low on content [first half nosedives]… #Adipurush could have been a game changer, but, alas, it’s a missed opportunity… All gloss, no soul. #Prabhas worst performance.”

Distributor-exhibitor Akshay Rathi, who owns theaters in Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, said the early box office trend for the film was encouraging despite setbacks. “The numbers are very exciting, the occupancy is at a level we haven’t seen since ‘The Kerala Story’ and ‘Pathaan’. So, it’s good to see a return in significant numbers of viewers to watch this version of Ramayana,” Rathi told PTI.

Commenting on the criticism, Rathi said that since it is a story of faith, people are bound to be sensitive. “Any version of (Ramayana) ever told will see people reacting positively and negatively, we are witnessing both. A large number of people are coming,” he said.

Meanwhile, in Nepal, the film’s release ended with screening suspended in cinema halls across Kathmandu following controversy over a dialogue that called Janaki the daughter of India. According to mythology, Sita is believed to have been born in Janakpur, located in Nepal.

The Mayor of Kathmandu City, Balendra Shah, asked the perpetrators to correct the mistake about Sita’s birthplace. “Until the line ‘Janaki is a daughter of India’ in the South Indian film ‘Adipurush’ is removed not only in Nepal but also in India, no Hindi film will be allowed to run in the Metropolitan City of Kathmandu (sic),” the Mayor Shah wrote on Facebook on Thursday.

Nepal’s film certification board also said that the film will be allowed to screen in theaters only after the dialogue describing “Sita as the daughter of India” is changed.

The multilingual show, produced by T-Series, was released across the nation in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil languages.
