Dick Strawbridge was not impressed when his wife Angel admitted that she was checking out other chateaux on the market in her spare time.
Angel’s confession came during the first episode of the couple’s podcast, Chat Dick & Angel…Eau.
Discussing the couple’s passion for chateaus, she revealed: “I can’t help it, we’re just chateau junkies!
“I like to see what’s still out there, and you hear – ‘well, the market is different now’ – the terrain is a bit different, you know, because things have happened politically.
“But there are still deals to be found out there, especially if you’re ready…”
However, Dick, 64, stopped his wife, 45, in his tracks as he said: “You really check out chateaus on a weekly basis?”
“Yes there is an email every Sunday – aren’t you on the database dear?” Angel answered.
Revealing a stark difference between the Escape to the Chateau stars, Dick hit back: “Of course not me, dear!
“I’d rather stick a pin in my eye than look at other castles – I’ve had enough of that now!”
Explaining that she tends to browse the housing market, Angel told her other half: “It doesn’t matter if I find somewhere that’s nice.
“And you’re with me, we’re always in estate agents’ windows!”
“Yeah but that’s because you’re weird, you do that anyway,” he replied.
“I don’t think everyone does that,” Angel insisted.
Continuing to tease her, Dick said: “No, no.
“We started by saying that we are going to explain to you how we are sitting here in this chateau talking to you.
“Well, we’re in this one and I have no intention of being anywhere else but in another chateau.”
Dick insisted that he plans to spend the rest of his life at the famous family home, Château de la Motte-Husson in the Mayenne département of France, before being buried there.
He added: “I’m going to plant from there, because the idea of having another chateau or even looking at another chateau…
“Unless of course we had two—one each—his and hers,” suggested Dick.
The couple first invested in the French chateau in 2015, before completing lengthy renovations to the building, which is now estimated to be worth over £2 million.
