This is India’s 13th quota in shooting for the 2024 Olympics and second in the women’s 50m rifle 3 position event. A country may have a maximum of two quotas per shooting event for the Paris Olympics. India got six of its 13 quotas at the Asian Shooting Championships itself, according to Olympics.com.

Sadangi had a score of 440.5 in the final and finished fourth behind bronze medalist Siyu Xia (453.3) of China, silver medalist Jiayu Han (463.3) of China and gold medalist Eunseo Lee of South Korea (468.5).

The Asian Shooting Championship is a qualifying event for the Paris Olympics, with 24 quotas available. The top two finishers (one per country) in each of the 12 Olympic shooting events will earn a place for their nation.

Eunseo had already won a quota for South Korea and China had reached the maximum quota of two in the women’s 50m rifle. Shriyanka won the quota for India.

The National Olympic Committee has the exclusive authority to represent its nations in the Olympic Games. The participation of the athletes depends on the NOC that selects them in the Paris 2024 delegation.

Indian rifle and pistol shooters with the Paris 2024 quota will get a bonus point in national trials scheduled for next year, according to the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) policy.

During the qualification round, Shriyanka shot 588 to finish sixth. Asian Games bronze medalist Ashi Chouksey stood second in the qualifying round with 591 points and Ayushi Podder was ninth with 587 points.

In the final, Ashi scored 417.4 points to finish and Ayushi got 407.5 points to finish seventh.

Asian Games champion Sift Kaur Samra topped the qualifying round with 592 points, but was competing for Ranking Points Only (RPO) and did not reach the last eight. Manini Kaushik, who also competed under the RPO, finished 10th with 586 qualification points.

A combined total of 1766 points from Ashi, Shriyanka and Ayushi helped India clinch the gold in the women’s 3 post 50m rifle team event ahead of Kazakhstan (1760) and South Korea (1759 ).

The Indian shooters will be in action in the men’s 50m3 rifle standings on Wednesday. Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar, India’s most successful Asian Games shooter, will also be in action.

Since India has completed both the quotas in the men’s 3 50m rifle event, Tomar cannot add to India’s Olympic quotas at the Asian Championships. (ANI)
