F1 LIVE: Fernando Alonso to Red Bull, Lewis Hamilton’s Max Verstappen bet, Russell demand | F1 | Sport
Felipe Massa is likely to win this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix, his home race, amid an ongoing legal battle with the sport.
Massa has challenged the 2008 title result, claiming he should have been awarded the Lewis Hamilton trophy after F1 stewards failed to act properly on a deliberate accident in Singapore that affected the standings.
He has not been seen in the paddock since he hired lawyers to represent him on the matter and it looks like he will continue to watch from afar.
“The only thing I know is that F1 asked me not to go to the Monza race,” said Massa Motorsport.com. “I was also going to go to the race in Japan [as ambassador] and I didn’t go.
“Regarding Brazil, nothing was discussed, we had no contact from that moment before Monza until now, so…
“I would [only] go to the races as an ambassador. But I 100 percent respect the [legal] a situation that is happening right now, perhaps [to the point] of not going because of [all] that is happening.
“But there was no invitation and no conversation about my work as an ambassador, so I don’t think I should participate.”
