Millie Gibson is set to become a household name around the world as she takes on the role of Ruby Sunday, companion to new Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa. The show will now be shown on Disney + alongside the BBC, which is sure to make her a global star.

The 19-year-old actress will be the youngest ever companion when she hits screens in the coming weeks and has spoken about how she feels the role is her destiny.

After making her name as Kelly Neelan in Coronation Street, she found out she had the chance to star in the BBC sci-fi series on the same day she filmed her final scenes for the ITV soap.

“My agent called me and said, ‘How are you doing?’. And I was like, ‘I’m a bit down, today was my last day’, and he said, ‘Well, you’re going to keep this going’,” she told Doctor Who magazine.

“When he told me what it was, I kept thinking, ‘Oh my God, this is destiny, this is destiny’,” she revealed.

But who is the Doctor’s new sidekick? Express.co.uk has taken a look inside her life to find out everything you need to know.

Manchester-born Millie has famously crossed her eyebrows, which looks like she’s following the current split-eyebrow trend.

However, that is an actual scar she got from falling down the stairs as a child, rather than a fashion statement.

The young star, whose older sister looks like Amy, 25, has been acting since she was a child, taking drama classes at Oldham Theater Workshop,

When she was just 12 years old she had an agent dedicated to her and quickly landed her first role as Indira on Jamie Johnson’s CBBC show.

After that role, it was Coronation Street that brought her to the public eye. After a five-episode debut as the daughter of loan shark Rick Neelan, played by Greg Wood, she later became a series regular and was at the center of some truly dramatic storylines.

For her portrayal of Kelly, she won the award for Best Young Actress at the 2022 British Soap Awards and was also nominated for Best Actress at the Inside Soap Awards later that year.

Off screen, she is currently in love with new boyfriend Tom Neatis, who she spotted in Salerno, Italy earlier this year. Tom owns a music label and she’s been leaving sweet comments on his social media posts, dating back to last November – suggesting they’ve been dating for around a year now.

Before Tom started, Millie was dating her childhood sweetheart Drew Cunningham, who she is thought to have split from in 2021.

Millie will make her Ruby debut in December after David Tennant’s 60-year-old Doctor Who trioth Special commemorative programs were broadcast.
