New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner has surpassed India’s leading batsman Virat Kohli to become the most influential player on the field at the ongoing World Cup according to the ICC rankings. The New Zealand all-rounder has just four catches in six games at the ongoing World Cup, his impact on the field is not limited to his ability to take catches. The experienced Kiwi spinner also made his presence felt in various field categories. His solitary catch in the Afghanistan clash is an indication of the efforts he puts into the field for the Blackcaps.

The 31-year-old has a team-high nine runs saved in the outfield, he also tops the chart in categories for good throws, pressure ratings and run-out attempts.

With his heroes on the field, he has a narrow lead in the race for all-field influence after the end of six World Cup games for each team. South Africa’s destructive batsmen David Miller and Australia’s David Warner are the closest challenges to his position.

Virat was the most influential fielder after three matches for each side at the tournament, but in the remaining three matches, he dropped to the sixth spot after the recent update. Another teammate Ravindra Jadeja pounced on him to move to fifth.

Santner sits at the top with 43.28 rating points, Miller (41.19) and Warner (40.82) sit in second and third place respectively. With 33.46 rating points, Virat has fallen to the sixth spot while Jadeja with 33.72 rating points is comfortably placed at the fifth spot.
