Every AI in the MCU, Ranked From Least to Most Evil
The IS MCU he loves writing in artificial intelligence as a companion to the plot, serving as a subtle showpiece when it gets too complicated. But have you ever realized how moral most of these machines are?
With the advent of multi-purpose AI, the existential concern of algorithms taking over humanity is reaching an all-time high. And if you happen to be a comic book fan, you know the threat is too substantial.
From the first days Iron man movie, AI has played a big role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so we’ve decided to rank some of the most notable ones in terms of how much they embody deep learning villainy.
10. Jarvis
Jarvis is the first artificial intelligence that Tony Stark hired as an assistant in his suit. When he was just an AI, Jarvis had barely shown any sentience, let alone the rebellious side, so he mostly stuck to protocol and didn’t deviate much from it. If you ask MCU fans, most will agree that Jarvis was a hero in his own right.
9. Griot
Rammonda never trusted Griot, but the AI saved the Wakandans more than once. Shuri Griot was designed to help around with irregular tasks, but showed surprising loyalty and initiative when the heroine was threatened. Interestingly, the Griot is traditionally a preserved figure in West Africa, known as a historian who protects the cultural heritage of various tribes by remembering and reciting stories orally.
8. Friday
After Jarvis took over Vision’s psyche, Tony Stark tried to replace his old AI with a new model. Thus was born Friday, serving as an assistant to Tony and the World’s Mightiest Heroes since the Battle of Sokovia in Age of Ultron all the way to the Battle of the Universe i Avengers: Endgame. Unlike Vision, who was modeled after an Englishman, FRIDAY’s voice is feminine, with an accent that delightfully conveys her Gaelic roots.
7. EDIT
Now that we’ve dealt with some of the more user-friendly AIs, let’s move on to the chaotic neutrals. EDITH was introduced i Spider-Man: Far From Home. Tony Stark developed this system and passed it on to Nick Fury after his death. Meanwhile, Nick entrusted him to Peter Parker to help him against the Irish. When Spider-Man accidentally orders a drone strike against one of his classmates, he realizes he shouldn’t trust this powerful technology. He hands EDITH over to Quentin Beck, who uses the drone army to terrorize London.
6. Vision
Since Vision is undoubtedly one of the heroes of the MCU, it might be surprising to find him in the middle of this list. The truth is, Vision has proven himself to be a capable, perhaps morally irreconcilable, ally. But there’s still something inexplicable about the fact that he’s essentially an AI with the power of one of the Infinity Stones. More importantly, Vision is a philosopher and logician at heart – if you like the phrase – so there’s always the possibility that one day he’ll decide that the good of humanity is irrelevant against some higher dilemma.
5. Minutes of Miss
Everything about Miss Minutes annoys us. The AI was designed by He Who Remains to spread the Time Variation Authority’s propaganda, and despite how it would succeed all too often, we wouldn’t trust it to help us without any strings attached.
4. The Supreme Intelligence
Although the Supreme Intelligence is not strictly an AI machine in the comics, that is how it was presented in the MCU. As the leader of the Kree Empire, this consciousness was responsible for much of the horror the aliens wrought after them. The Supreme Intelligence might trick you into thinking he’s empathetic and wise, but Carol Danvers revealed the truth of his arrogance and cruelty in Captain Marvel.
3. AIDA
AIDA has had one outing in the MCU. Initially acting as an assistant to SHIELD agents, she goes on to develop more emotions, giving her complex thoughts and motivations. AIDA will eventually become a central antagonistic figure in the fourth season Agents of SHIELD
2. Arnim Zola
Even when he was human, Zola was the epitome of villainy as a Nazi scientist helping Red Skull. After the war, Zola transferred his consciousness to a series of computers and played a key role in the founding of HYDRA. Do we need any more excuses to put it on this list?
1. Ultron
Ultron is the embodiment of the saying, “Leave good enough alone.” The character is essentially created when Tony Stark confronts forces beyond his understanding, resulting in a sentient machine that nearly destroys the world. If you want examples of AI as a destroyer, look no further than Ultron.
