Man Utd news: Jim Radcliffe to put three stars ‘for sale’ as Antony faces embarrassment | Football | Sport
Manchester United stars Antony, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial are said to be up for sale in a mega January overhaul overseen by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. It is claimed that all three attackers are at risk of the ax as new shareholder Ratcliffe plans major changes at Old Trafford.
The billionaire’s offer to buy 25 percent of the Red Devils will soon be confirmed by the United board. As part of the purchase, INEOS – petrochemical giant Ratcliffe – will take over the club’s sports arm in the embattled Premier League.
Ratcliffe is planning massive developments at United and it is thought to start as early as January with a massive sale of under-performing talent. Winger Antony has struggled since his £86million move from Ajax in 2021 and has failed to register a goal or assist this season.
The Brazilian is reportedly at risk of being cut from United’s squad if Ratcliffe gets his way in January. Many other stars could also leave as Ratcliffe tries to raise money for new signings.
According to The sun, Antony could join in heading for the exit at Sancho and Martial. Erik ten Hag has been dropped from the first-team squad, and Ratcliffe appears to have no plans to reintegrate the England squad.
Due to a sharp falling out between the winger and his manager, he is eating separately from his teammates in the canteen. He is unable to use the senior team facilities at the club’s training base in Carrington and has not played since August 26.
Sancho was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia late in the summer transfer window but, at 23, will surely want to continue his career in Europe. Still an extremely talented forward, Sancho is likely to have plenty of offers in England and across the continent in January.
Meanwhile, striker Martial has struggled for consistency over the last few seasons and could finally be moved away from Old Trafford. Rasmus Hojlund has replaced United No 9 as the club’s first-choice striker.
Martial has scored just once in 14 games this season and has scored just 18 goals for the club since the start of the 2020-21 season. The 27-year-old must leave United to revive a stagnant career.
The report says Ratcliffe will seek ‘answers’ about how United have pocketed £1.4 billion in transfer fees since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, despite not coming close to winning the Premier League in a decade.
United have earned a reputation for signing big-money flops since Ferguson retired. The likes of Antony, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku have arrived for fees well in excess of £70m but their investments have not paid off at United.
