COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Logan Cooley and Lawson Crouse scored 28 seconds apart in the third period as the Arizona Coyotes rallied to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 on Thursday night.

The win was the second road win in three games for the Coyotes, who extended the Blue Jackets’ losing streak to seven games.

Barrett Hayton also scored for Arizona, and Connor Ingram stopped 39 shots to remain unbeaten against Columbus in three games. The Coyotes picked up points for the third straight game.

“It was a good, resilient game for us,” Arizona coach André Tourigny said. “Of course, we didn’t play Picasso, but at the end of the day we have to be happy with the result.”

Damon Severson scored twice and Elvis Merzlikins had 29 stops for the Blue Jackets, who lost three straight at home and dropped their sixth straight game after taking the lead.

After a scoreless first period, Severson gave Columbus the lead at 1:44 of the second with a shot from the right circle for his second goal of the season. Ivan Provorov’s secondary assist was his 10th and made him the team point leader.

Hayton even drew the Coyotes with a shot from his knees just in front of the net that slipped to Merzlikins’ left at 6:19. It was Hayton’s fourth point in five games.

The score remained tied until the third period when Cooley gave Arizona the lead on the second power play of the night, scored off a wrister from the left circle at 9:38. Crouse made it 3-1 just 28 seconds later.

“A lot of our D played a great game to put a lot of pressure on their front end there towards the end, and we got the win,” Cooley said.

Severson’s second goal came with 1:57 left as an extra skater replaced Merzlikins, but Columbus could get no closer.

“That’s the NHL,” Blue Jackets coach Pascale Vincent said. “No one will give you anything, and we cannot be sorry for ourselves. Tomorrow we are going to get up and do it again, and then find solutions.”
