F1 LIVE: Formula 1 being sued as Mercedes and Red Bull break rules at Las Vegas GP | F1 | Sport

Max Verstappen has labeled F1 rules as haphazard after Carlos Sainz penalized him at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The Spaniard was forced to replace numerous parts on his Ferrari after hitting a loose drain cover, meaning he was penalized for changing too many parts on his car during the season.

Sainz’s penalty has caused an uproar, with Verstappen the latest star to jump to his rival’s defence, saying: “The rules have to be changed for that. I mean, it’s the same if you get taken out and have a big accident, you can lose parts of the engine, the energy store, all these things.

“First of all, that needs to change. These things can count if you can take a free penalty, I’d say, or not, it won’t count. And besides that I think the teams should not be allowed to have a say in these things. Because for sure, they’re going to vote against that,” he continued. Personally I think it’s very tough on Carlos. But in this political environment that we’re in, of course every team thinks about themselves and of course they’re going to say ‘yes, take the penalty.'”
