From childhood to teenagers, Pat Cummins saw Australia completed a hat-trick of World Cup wins and at a young age got that taste of what it means to be a World Champion as part of the class of 2015.
Now 30, Cummins is looking to recapture that great feeling of leading an unprecedented sixth World Cup finish against a formidable Indian side.

“It would be huge. We were all kids not too long ago, watching some of the great teams that won the World Cup in 99, 2003, 2007. That’s the opportunity we have tomorrow, which is beyond to be exciting. To be captain it would be an absolute privilege to lift the trophy with these amazing crowds,” Cummins said on the eve of the final.

The Australian skipper believes that a tournament that only takes place once in four years will definitely be a career highlight for him. “It would be awesome and in terms of the pinnacle, I think it’s right up there. The world event has the longest history where all the teams compete. You only get a shot at it every four years.

“So even if you have a long career, you might only play in two of these events. 2015 is still a career highlight for me, so I think tomorrow if we win, maybe we’ll get it done.”

After winning the World Test Championship in the Ashes, it has been a great year for Australian cricket and the 50-over World Cup is the icing on the cake.

“I mean, it’s been a huge year. There’s four marquee events. If one of those is in the off-season, it’s a big off-season. We’ve got four of them. For some of the guys, they’ve probably spent more less than a few weeks in his own bed since the end of the Aussie summer.

“One thing that has remained consistent is the morale in the group. The guys have been great. They are so ready for every game they play. And to put ourselves in this position, it would be great to incredible. year and probably a career defining year that many of us will look back on in years to come and be quite proud of,” the skipper looked pleased with his team’s form.

For Cummins, with at least 12 players who have won a 50-over or T20 World Cup, the team is in a good place because they know how to deal with the pressures of a big occasion.

“I think it will be a fair game. The good thing is that we have six or seven guys who won it in 2015 so we know that feeling. Even more of the guys who were there in the T20 World Cup, they are different format, but almost everyone.
“Well there are at least a dozen of the 15, won the World Cup and know what it takes and know that feeling and you won’t be afraid to go out there and be brave and put the game on. “

As far as the pressure of playing in front of 132,000 spectators is concerned, Cummins wants his men to rise to the occasion, just like David Warner’s ‘Srivalli Hook Step’ did Allu Arjun from the blockbuster Telugu film “Pushpa”.
“We play a lot here in India so the noise is nothing new – yes, I think on this scale it’s bigger than before but it’s not really alien to what it was us before. .

“Everybody deals with it a little bit differently. You see Davey [Warner] they will probably be dancing and winning the crowd over other guys but staying in their own bubble ¿ yeah it should be good.”

After beating India in the ODI series in March, Cummins is confident of his team’s chances in the final but named Mohammed Shami as India’s all-rounder.

“I mean they’re all fine in every department. You know the one guy who didn’t play at the start of the tournament, Mohammed Shami obviously did really well. He’s a great bowler right and left armor, so yeah, it’s going to be a big one.”

Even Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja will be quite difficult to face in the middle order.
“They’ve got five men who bowl 10 overs almost every game. I think their spinners have done well through the finals, Kuldeep and Jadeja, so they’ll be a tough proposition as they always are. But you know, they’ve won every game, so they’ve been very impressive.”
