Matty Healy has landed himself in hot water online after a clip from a recent show by The 1975 went viral on TikTok – and the singer made some even more controversial comments about rapper Kanye West.

Since his divorce from Kim Kardashian, the 46-year-old has come under fire for his well-publicized outspokenness and speeches sharing his views on a number of topics online, some of which even saw him briefly banned from the platforms of social media.

A few anti-Semitic remarks were the last straw for many fans as they turned completely against the rapper, who now also goes by Ye.

However, it appears that the Grammy Award winner still has some celebrity supporters as Matty called him his “hero” during a show.

In a clip that has now gone viral, mostly with negative reactions from viewers, the 34-year-old can be seen projected on the venue’s screens as he spoke into the microphone with some strange clips of Subway Surfer and ASMR videos playing alongside him.

Matty, who is no stranger to stirring up controversy on stage, said: “You know what, I’m not a self-celebrator, but Kanye is one of my heroes.

“You have to f**king believe in yourself.”

As some applause rose from the crowd, the singer laughed and admitted: “That’s a terrible hero right now, I understand that.

“But anti-Semitism separated. Think of the self-belief.”

Matty briefly paused his monologue to tell the restless crowd to “stop” and pleaded with them: “Literally, tell me one band in the last four years that could do what we’re going to do in three make another minute.”

The short speech sparked a frenzy online with many singling out the singer not only for his choice of hero, saying: “‘Separate the antisemitism’ is a wild way to start a sentence.”

Another viewer on X declared: “Segregation is anti-Semitism’. We will not do such a thing.”

A third joked: “His shows are so boring they have to sideline subway surfers to keep them watching.”

Some people brought up the rumored relationship between Matty and Taylor Swift that was short-lived earlier this year, saying: “I think we wouldn’t know him if he never liked Taylor.”

Another joked about Matty’s relationship making headlines around the world: “Everything I learned about Matty Healy was against my will.”

However, the Somebody Else hitmaker had some supporters in the comments who agreed with him, as one wrote: “Artistically Kanye is up there, I don’t care about his ideologies or his personal life or even politics .”

A second said: “All these replies show how anyone gets Matty Healy lol I love him.”

A third advised the singer on a potentially less volatile way to share his thoughts: “Invincible self-belief is admirable, sure, but maybe let’s not get past anti-Semitism, eh? Keep it clean, keep it respectful, people. No hero is without flaws.”

The Daily Express has contacted Matty Healy’s representatives for comment.
