Australia’s Steve Smith’s fortunes could change if he opts for a review during his team’s 2023 Cricket World Cup Final against India in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Australia were chasing India’s total of 240 and in the seventh over, Steve Smith was given out LBW off a Jasprit Bumrah ball.
It was a slower off-cutter from Bumrah and Smith, trying to play it just missed on this occasion and was hit on the back pad.
Although Smith did not opt for the review, the ball-tracking showed that the impact was outside the line of the stumps.
If Smith had gone for the review, the decision would have been overturned and it would have been ultimately ruled out. Smith was dismissed for four runs off nine balls.
At the time of writing, Australia were 170/3 in 31 overs, needing 71 more runs to win from 19 balls.
