Strictly’s Amy Dowden all smiles at Blackpool party after latest health blow | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV
Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden didn’t let her latest health setback stop her from having a good time this weekend.
On Saturday night, the BBC contestants and their partners headed to Blackpool for the show’s annual special.
Although the 33-year-old had to pull out of the series after being diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, that hasn’t stopped her getting into the Strictly spirit.
After the contestants finished their routines, they all enjoyed the show’s after party with Amy in attendance.
In the images obtained by The Mirror, the star was seen with a huge smile on her face as she walked with the help of crutches and showed off her glittering orthopedic shoes.
Later, Amy began using a wheelchair that matched the shoe that inspired her. She also wore a pink top under a black velvet blazer and a dazzling breast cancer brooch.
Earlier this week, the 33-year-old took to Instagram to reveal she will be unable to take part in Strictly Ballroom after injuring her leg.
Describing her injury, she wrote: “It’s not been the week I was hoping for since finishing chemo, Port got through but unfortunately got a hold of his broken leg [sic].
“It’s absolutely heartbreaking and heartbreaking as this means I can no longer dance in the Strictly Ballroom this year.
“This is what has kept me going for the past few months, 2023 is definitely not my ear, roll on 2024 I say!”
Before breaking her leg, Amy revealed that she had completed her last round of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with breast cancer in May.
The professional dancer told The Mirror that the lump was first discovered while she was in the shower back in April, a day before she went on her honeymoon.
Initially believing it might be related to her period, she decided to keep an eye on it before talking to her GP at home about the growing lump.
She said at the time: “Everything happened so quickly within that day. I went alone and didn’t tell anyone.
“But, when I was there, the nurse said to me, ‘You’ve got to have someone here’ and that’s when Ben found out.
“They told me it looked very suspicious and to prepare for the worst, hope for the best. They did the biopsy and then we had to wait.”
However, the 33-year-old has since rung the bell to mark the end of her chemo, telling fans it was a relief “like no other”.
The results of Strictly Come Dancing will be broadcast on BBC One on Sunday at 7.20pm.
