Two years after it was first announced, May December it is about to be released on Netflix.
The drama stars Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore in a loose story based on the life of sex offender Mary Kay Letourneau. In 1997 the California teacher entered into a sexual relationship with her 12-year-old student. She eventually pleaded guilty to two counts of felony second-degree rape of a child and served six years in prison.
Their controversial life is the inspiration for an upcoming Netflix drama, which follows the two halves of a troubled relationship twenty years after it began. Moore is the older half of the pairing, alongside him Riverdaleand Charles Melton, who plays her young husband.
The film is already popular among viewers, collecting a Rotten Tomatoes score of 94 percent. It has been certified “fresh” on the site, where it has earned praise for its “unsettling” approach to storytelling, and the interesting way it delivers its “unbalanced and provocative” story.

May December made its theatrical debut at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, premiering on May 20th to an unprecedented audience. It presented the 2023 New York Film Festival as the “Opening Night Film” on September 29, and again received high praise from the audience.
That praise will only grow when the film hits Netflix, and welcomes a much larger audience base to its story. The thrilling twist is set to hit the streamer on December 1, 2023, just in time for viewers to enjoy it with that extra holiday time.
