The Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Tuesday named Indian badminton stars Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty for the Player of the Year Awards. The men’s doubles pair of Satwik and Chirag have won many tournaments in recent years, including a historic gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. It was the latest victory in Satwik and Chirag’s long list of achievements, which include a 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medal, a 2022 Thomas Cup title and a 2022 World Championship bronze medal.
In addition, they won prestigious tournaments such as the Asian Championships, the Indonesia Super 1000, the Korean Super 500 and the Swiss Open Super 300 – all in one remarkable year.
The most outstanding athletes of the season will be honored at the prestigious BWF Player of the Year Awards in Hangzhou on 11 December. The award ceremony will be held during the BWF World Tour Finals gala dinner.
There are eight award categories, including three for para badminton. The nominations were confirmed by the BWF Council and were selected based on performances from November 1, 2022 to October 31, 2023.
The net winner of Eddy Choong’s Brightest Player will be announced this evening.
The BWF World Tour Finals will be played at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium from December 13-17.
