What Balloons and Floats Will Be Appearing in the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?

If you love the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Paradebut don’t be surprised by the 70ft long cartoon character about to fly over your head, then you’re in luck today!

Collected below for your consideration is a complete list of all balloons, floats, and balloon/float combos currently expected to be presented on the big day.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Balloons, 2023

As always, the parade begins with a collection of Opening Macy’s Stars, with more festive five-point beauties scattered along the route.

As much fun as the stars are, and as much as we all love the Macy’s logo, the people in charge of this year’s parade chose to include 24 more balloons as well. Beagle Scout Snoopy and Woodstock join the proceedings, as do classic cultural icons such as Smokey the Bear, Sinclair’s Dino, and Ronald McDonald. Cartoon characters stretching all the way back to the days of the 1990s, like Spongebob Squarepants more than usual, and Gary, Pikachu, and Eevee, and Dragon Ball Z’s Goku will tower over the crowd. In a move that may strike New Yorkers who survived the Mr. Stay-Puft disaster of 1984 as highly insensitive, the venerable Pillsbury Doughboy balloon will fly through Manhattan.

Then, there are the more contemporary offers: Balloons based on Grogu from The Mandalorian, Bluey from Blues, Oh Kung fu Panda, and Stuart the Minion from the Despicable Me series. At least one giant inflatable Paw Patrol officer will be present, as will Blue Cat and Chugs, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Red Titan from Ryan’s World, and the upcoming Uncle Dan family animated feature from Illumination, Migration. Another new addition, Leo the iguana from Adam Sandler’s new Netflix cartoon, will stretch 73 feet across as he asks Al Roker and Hoda Kotb not to make a fake Godzilla reference. Monkey D. Luffy from One piece rounds out the list of movie and TV characters, with a Macy’s Ad Campaign TipToe Goat balloon, complete with puppeteer, for good measure.

Finally, and most importantly, a small and plucky contingent of public domain balloons will enter the cracks of the parade, featuring an Ice Cream Cone, Pumpkin, Snow Crystal Ornaments, and every child’s favorite, an Acorn.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Floats, 2023

Do you like parade floats, which should logically be what we call balloons? Well you are in luck. The 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade features just over 30 items, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem display and a float called “Rocking Lobster,” which is, empirically, an oversized lobster with pieces of a rocking horse on the bottom. Float/Balloon Mashups at the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
