Every Superhero and Supervillain Cast and Confirmed for James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’ and the DCU
The shiny new DCU not even a single feature has been released and yet it’s already becoming quite a crowded place. James Gunn, co-CEO of New DC Studios, has begun the relaunch of the cinematic universe in earnest, as the casting process currently underway for Superman: Legacy The hype for the summer 2025 reboot of the Man of Steel adventures is already through the roof in the DC fan community.
Gunn has promised that Inheritance it will give us “a world with superheroes that we’ve known for a long time,” so this won’t be a slow trickle of familiar characters like both the MCU and the DCEU before, but a crash course in. the rich, storied DC universe already familiar to comic book readers. So who are all the super heroes and villains that have been cast and/or confirmed to be present at DCU so far? Here’s everything you need.
Thrown
Blue Beetle
It’s true, though Superman: Legacy pegged as the proper start of DCU, James Gunn has confirmed that Blue Beetle will be the first real DCU character. Cobra KaiXolo Maradueña was cast as Jaime Reyes back in August 2021, well over a year before Gunn himself was even hired, and yet his release in August 2023 means he’s in prime placement for an early signup of the upcoming franchise reboot. With any luck, then, Maradueña will be invited back for more projects.
Superman

Just as Henry Cavill started the DCEU, and Christopher Reeve pioneered the monster of superhero movies in the first place, Superman is launching DCU. After an exhaustive search, David Corenswet – a man who looks so much the part he could be an AI rendering of the comic book character brought to life, and I mean that in a nice way – was hired in June 2023 to put a star on it. Inheritance, opposite Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Let’s hope he has a simpler career as Kal-El than Cavill.
Lex Luthor

Nicholas Hoult may not have landed the lead role Superman: Legacy, but it’s hard to argue that the role is better suited for him in Kal-El’s own nemesis, Lex Luthor. Like Jesse Eisenberg before him, Hoult may be a little younger than you’d expect Lex to be, but if you’re wondering how he could possibly play an impatient bald character, don’t be watch longer than Mad Max: Fury Road. Mark my words, it could turn out to be one of the best Lexes.
Awful Mr

This is James Gunn we’re talking about so it’s clear he’s not wasting any time bringing more obscure comic book characters to the big screen alongside the usual suspects. First, Michael Holt aka Mr. Terrific seen in Superman: Legacy, with Edi Gathegi who was cast as the scientific genius and Olympic level athlete, who is known to be the third smartest man in the DC Universe (behind Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor). This is Gathegi’s second time in a superhero film after 2011 X-Men: First Classin which he played Darwin.
The engineer

The Authority is coming. I don’t know who they are? Don’t worry, you will soon enough. The first member of the underrated DC superhero team will be in the form of María Gabriela de Faría, who will play tech expert The Engineer. The Venezuelan actor is best known for the Nickelodeon series Isa TKM and for her work on a previous comic book adaptation, the tragic short Deadly class. She is making her DC debut in Superman: Legacybut expect her to come back in The Authority film.
Hawk

We met Hawkman Aldis Hodge in Black Adam, and while Dwayne Johnson’s anti-hero is unlikely to factor into the DCU, Gunn seems to have plans for the hawks. Isabela Merced, basically poached from Sony because she’s already set to start a Spider-Man spinoff Madame Webis also included in the cast of it Superman: Legacy as a Hawk. Kendra Saunders, most known from the Justice League animated series, there is either a reincarnated Egyptian princess or an alien hero, depending on the continuity.
Metamorph

When adventurer Rex Mason discovered the Orb of Ra, it became a shifting mass of chemicals and was renamed Metamorpho. In the DCU, Metamorpho is played by Barry star Anthony Carrigan, who already has a history in the DC multiverse after playing Victor Zsasz i Gotham. With the entrance of Metamorpho, Gunn brought together two of the four members of The Terrifics, DC’s answer to the Fantastic Four.
Green Lantern (Guy Gardner)

It’s fair to say that the DCEU has well and truly wasted the massive potential of the Green Lantern Corps, so it’s encouraging that Gunn doesn’t seem to be making that mistake again. First, one of Gunn’s best friends and most frequent collaborators, Nathan Fillion, will return to DC — after his cameo as TDK in The Suicide Squad — in Superman: Legacy. This time, he is playing Guy Gardner, a Green Lantern who spent most of his time in the spotlight in the comics of the 1980s. And, yes, he will have the red-headed bowl.
Creature Commandos

A bit like Suicide Squad mixed with a Universal Dark Universe, the Creature Commandos An animated series will introduce Amanda Waller’s other black-ops team made up of classic monsters. Their number includes Eric Frankenstein (David Harbour), the Bride of Frankenstein (Indira Varma), the admiral Nina Mazursky (Zoë Chao), the radioactive Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk), and the original screen character Princess Illana Rostovic (Maria Bakalova ). Both GI Robot androids are played by Sean Gunn. and Weasel, returning from The Suicide Squad. Frank Grillo is Rick Flag Snr.
Certificates
Batman and Robin

That’s it for the cast of characters at the time of writing, but there are plenty more to come. At the top of the pile, of course, we have the Dark Knight himself, as well as the Boy Wonder, returning to the live-action cinema for the first time since 1997. As directed The Flashis Andy Muschietti, The Brave and the Bold will focus on Bruce Wayne’s bond with his long-lost son, Damian Wayne, who will be Robin. Fans hope to see other members of the Bat-Family, such as Dick Grayson and Tim Drake.
Swamp Thing

It is the only other Dublin City University project with a director attached at this point Swamp Thingwhich will be written and directed Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destinyand James Mangold. The star of two 1980s B-movies and a sadly short-lived streaming series, Swamp Thing is the living lump of green sludge that Dr. Alec Holland when he falls into a mutagenic swamp. Swamp Thing is a mystical and tragic character, guardian of the Greens, the force that binds all plants, with loads of potential to explore.
Green Lanterns (Hal Jordan and John Stewart)

Fillion’s Guy Gardner is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to DCU’s exploration of the Green Lantern Corps. After years of being stuck in development hell, Gunn is finally working on a reboot of the franchise. Specifically, a Lanterns A television series is being developed, described as True DetectiveA buddy cop show where John Stewart and Hal Jordan work together to solve a mystery based on Earth. Don’t expect Ryan Reynolds to rejoin as Hal. Or for their suits to be CGI.
The Authority

Perhaps the left-field project Gunn greenlit for DCU’s Chapter One The Authority, a film based on the superhero team that originally came from the WildStorm universe that eventually folded into the DC canon. Their roster includes Jenny Sparks, electrokinetic Jack Hawksmoor — he connects to cities to power them, it’s hard to explain — the Tibetan winged warrior Swift, and fan favorites Apollo and Midnighter — basically analog Superman and Batman are married. a couple.
Gold booster

James Gunn has said that he is willing to spend his all Guardians of the Galaxy his friends at Dublin City University, and if he wants to hire Chris Pratt anywhere he needs to look no further than Booster Gold. The star of his self-titled TV series, Booster is a failed football player from the 25th century who travels back in time with some future technology to become a superpowered pin looking for glory, only to find out what it really means to be. hero The character had previously appeared on both Little Town and Legends of Tomorrow.
Super girl

Last but not least, we met Sasha Calle’s Supergirl i The Flashand wouldn’t you know it, Gunn has plans to give Girl of Steel her own solo tour Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, as based on the Tom King comic of the same name. However, it is currently unclear whether Calle will be invited back for this project or not, although she is naturally interested in it. However, with Muschietti being kept around, there is a good chance that Calle will be transferred to DCU alongside him.
